Cafe 143: Great food in the heart of Norfolk
Once known as the legendary Phil's Cafe, run by Phil himself, Mary his wife, and Milton their son, Phil's Cafe ran for 19 years before Phil and Mary's retirement. Phil's Cafe was famous for great food and a friendly family who would always stop to talk.
Milton, along with his sister Yvonne, seeing the opportunity, decided to take over the family business. They spent 3 months renovating the inside of the restaurant to update, refresh, and renew the atmosphere, decide a delicious menu, and finally open up the doors of the beloved cafe once and for all.
After debating for what seemed like weeks on a new name for the new restaurant, the family decided to go with Cafe 143, basing the name off of the address of the building. Only later on opening day did the family find out that 143 stood for I love you, a very fitting name for a restaurant run by a family with nothing but love.
Opening day on Friday, January 4, 2013 was a busy, but great day. Family and friends all attended the first day open. With the help of Mary and Phil, Yvonne's husband Cecil, and their children, Maria, Theo, and Philip, and some old friends, opening day was a great success! The family looks forward to the many days ahead, watching Cafe 143 grow and satisfy the many people who walk through the doors.
